Oakland has established clearly defined roles and responsibilities within its business, ensuring appropriate levels of skill and experience have been retained for every area of the Company's core activities.

This segmentation of the Company's personnel is designed to best serve the interests of the Shareholders.


The Directors

The Directors possess a broad range of skills, qualifications and experience, including finance, regulatory and corporate governance, strategic planning, risk mitigation, policy development, accounting, legal, property investment and development, sales and marketing, and contract management. This allows the Board to form a well-balanced and experienced team and perform its role effectively and efficiently, balancing its responsibilities to Investors with the need to understand and take advantage of market opportunities, with regard to best practice in the area of corporate governance.

Managing Director - Brook Monahan

Prior to building the Company and taking on the role as the Manager Director of Oakland, Brook Monahan has had vast experience in many areas of the business, corporate and financial world. Brook holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (hons) and has continued additional post graduate studies in business, finance and securities. Brook has been actively involved in the investment management industry during this period and is the Managing Director and founder of Midas Group Investments Pty Ltd, which holds its own Australian Financial Services Licence, AFS Licence number: 289 327. Brook's leadership, skills and experience are essential to the ongoing development of the Company and consequently, its future success.

David Handley - Director

David Handley has a wide and varied background in business and operational management, corporate systemisation, business consulting, credit and mortgage lending. David holds a Bachelor of Science and is currently completing further studies in mortgage management and lending. David has been extensively involved in credit and mortgage lending and currently fills the role of Lending Manager within Oakland. While actively involved as a private investor in the Australian property market for many years, David's core strengths provide considerable organisational and people management skills to Oakland, in addition to a unique and passionate understanding of the Australian property investment arena.

Barrie Meerkin - Non-Executive Director

Barrie has a Bachelor of Laws and Commerce, a Masters of Law and a Masters of Business Administration, all obtained from the University of Melbourne. He is also admitted to practice in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales (pending) and overseas in England & Wales, Hong Kong, New York and Israel. Barrie specialises in all aspects of corporate and securities law and is the principal solicitor of the law firm, Solomon Alexander Lawyers, based in Brisbane. Barrie brings his wealth of experience and expertise to oversee all of Oakland's capital raisings, corporate and security documentation ensuring that Oakland's interests and those of its Investors are secured, and the borrower is legally bound to repay any monies advanced.


Fund Administration, Marketing and Shareholder Support

Silverstone Marketing & Distribution (SMD) is the only company authorised to market and promote Oakland Investment's products to the public. They do this through a team of Investment Product Advisors (Authorised Representatives of Midas Group Investments Pty Ltd, AFSL number: 289 327) as well as a network of aligned businesses and referrers. This structure ensures that Oakland maintains the highest standards of Investor interaction with the Company, whilst also ensuring consistent positioning of Oakland to the marketplace. The members of SMD have extensive knowledge of the Oakland product and uphold all elements of the Oakland Vision, Mission and Culture.

Oakland's unique back office, administration and Shareholder support divisions also ensure the following is areas of the business are carefully accounted for:

  • Shareholder liaison;
  • Ongoing Shareholder support;
  • Compliance functions;
  • Accounting and taxation services;
  • Office and secretarial services;
  • Financial reporting;
  • Performance review and Shareholder communication;
  • Sourcing;
  • Vetting;
  • Processing of applications and issuing of shares;
  • Mortgage Management documentation; and
  • Compliance filing for all lending activities with the terms and conditions of the Investment Criteria Model.

The Investment Committee

Oakland has established an Investment Committee to oversee the application of the Oakland Investment Selection process and underlying Investment Criteria Model, to maintain the Oakland Investment Strategy and continuously review the lending policies and practices of Oakland.

The operations of the Investment Committee are governed by the Investment Committee Charter which establishes the committee's roles and responsibilities as follows:

  • Maintain the Oakland Investment Strategy;
  • Ensure the reliability of and compliance with the Investment Criteria Model;
  • Monitor compliance with prescribed management practices;
  • Consider appropriateness of risk assessment policies;
  • Provide an open avenue of communication between the Board of Oakland and The Investment Advisory Group;
  • Establish and maintain a consistent and structured investment framework for the making of investment decisions for Oakland;
  • Ensure that all relevant statutory requirements of Oakland are met; and
  • Ensure that any significant issues and breaches are reported to the Board and that they are handled in a timely and effective manner.

The Investment Advisory Group

The Investment Advisory Group has been established for the sole reason of adding further depth and experience to The Investment Committee.

While The Investment Committee is blessed with more than enough essential skill base to appropriately represent the Shareholder body, the Board of Oakland also recognises the requirement to outsource additional and complimentary skill sets when required.

The Oakland Advisory Group consists of external professionals with not only substantial experience and qualifications, but as leaders in their respective fields, including areas of expertise such as:

  • Valuing Property;
  • Real Estate Development and Property Investing;
  • Corporate Finance and Accounting;
  • Legal, Secretarial and security expertise
  • Commercial Litigation;
  • Banking and Finance; and
  • Commercial Lending

The Oakland Board carefully selects key members for its Investment Advisory Group to add input to the Oakland Model either from time-to-time or on a regular ongoing basis. This group particularly focuses on the Investment Selection Process, The Investment Criteria Model and Security Documents; with the objective of continually refining potential areas of improvement in every aspect of Oakland's investment strategy.
